A team of 50 cyclists from Ramboll Whitbybird is riding
from the UK to Denmark as part of a three day challenge. Once the cyclists cross the finishing line they will join the rest of their colleagues in Haslev for a large-scale knowledge-sharing event called the Ramboll Knowledge Experience on 30th August, 2008.
The team of mainly engineers, dubbed the 'RWB Racers', plans to cover the 830km distance using sustainable methods of transport. Meeting in Harwich from our various UK offices for a ferry ride to Esbjerg, the 50 cyclists will travel through Denmark crossing the Store Belt engineered by Ramboll. The Link comprises a 6,790m long suspension bridge, a 6,611m long combined rail/road bridge and an 8,000m long immersed rail tunnel.

The RWB Racers are aiming to save carbon emissions of nearly three quarters of a tonne in total, while ensuring they are still able to participate in an event that will enable them to learn and share engineering experience, state of the art technologies and details of the latest Ramboll projects worldwide.
Racing organiser Isaac Tavares explains, "Working for a company which has sustainability at its core, this challenge gives us the perfect chance to show how much we can save in CO2 emissions by not flying, and channelling our personal energies into greener travel."
Group CEO Flemming Bligaard Pedersen commented that this type of project is typical of the culture within Ramboll Whitbybird, "This cycling event clearly demonstrates the dynamic energy and enthusiasm at the heart of the company and why they are such an asset to the Ramboll Group."
To offset the remaining employees travel, Ramboll Whitbybird is putting forward finances for its community projects such as the river footbridge in Malawi and the Equiano Centre, a library project in Sierra Leone. The Ramboll Group is also making a donation for each person flying to Denmark to be used for the development of clean-energy projects and the funding of emission reduction projects such as hydro-electric power plants and wind farms.
