GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEERING
We provide an unusually
comprehensive geotechnical engineering service, recognising that the key to project success is often
in overcoming ground-based
site constraints.
Ramboll Whitbybird's geotechnical engineering team is a highly-qualified
and enthusiastic group of experts with
a specific interest in any aspect of a construction project that occurs, or is affected by, work below ground.

Our geotechnical engineers are flexible in their way of working.
We are always alert to the possibility of a specially designed option,
finding that these are frequently more effective than standard procedures
in meeting our client’s priorities and those of the design team.
We provide the full range of standard geotechnical procedures, including desk study, ground-based risk assessment, ground contamination testing and mitigation, due diligence consultancy, site investigation, earth retaining structures and foundation design. Consideration of seismic factors is increasingly partof our work, as our international portfolio grows.
However, our expertise extends to more specialist areas influencing the whole life of a project, from earliest concept design to post-construction monitoring, and involving close liaison with other engineering disciplines. It is this holistic approach that our clients find particularly useful in maximising project value.
We are at the forefront of our field in .....
— soil/structure interaction analyses and ground movement predictions
— urban geotechnics, including foundation re-use, building close to tunnels, liaison with statutory authorities and working on confined sites or those with limited access
— instrumentation and monitoring during construction and following project completion
— development of risk mitigation strategies
— computer simulation and 3D finite element analysis
We continue to be instrumental in geotechnical research initiatives, often in collaboration with academic institutions. These links ensure that we are involved in the constant evolution of ground theory, and we readily incorporate new findings into our practice.
